Your child’s car safety is not optional! For years in a row, Romania has consistently ranked first in terms of the number of road accident victims in the 0-14 age group, with approximately 120 lives lost annually, while 600 children are seriously injured.
The lack of use of a special car seat for young children and a seat belt for those taller than 135 cm is the main reason for victimization in this age group.
Children’s Car Safety Foundation®, full member of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), is a non-profit organization that has set itself a pioneering mission in Romania, namely to change the attitude of parents and educators in Romania regarding the mode of transport of children in the car, thus changing the negative statistics that please Romania in the first place in European Union in terms of the number of accidents involving child passengers.
Your child’s car safety is not optional!
The statistical data available for 2019 indicate a road accident mortality among children under 15 years of age of 27 per 1 million inhabitants, well above the European Union average (9 deaths per 1 million children under 15 years) or face the average of some countries such as the United Kingdom, Sweden or Norway (4 deaths per 1 million children under 15). In the last 5 years alone, there have been more than 900 deaths among children, victims of road accidents.
In the event of a car accident, 85% of children transported in special car seats escape unharmed.
International statistics also show that, in the event of a car accident, 85% of children transported in special car seats escape unharmed. Worldwide, road accidents are considered the leading cause of death among children aged 5 to 14 years.
Activity Children’s Car Safety Foundation® started in 2019 by setting up the first Children’s Car Safety Center®, center where parents can test the right car seats depending on the age, weight, height of the child as well as depending on the make, model and year of manufacture of the car they drive. Also within Child Safety Center®, we have initiated a program of free courses for parents, courses in which they learn how to install, use and maintain a child car seat, when it is time to change, how to proceed in the event of a minor road accident in which he was involved and a car in which a child is being transported. The first two Child Car Safety Centers in Bucharest and Constanța are already operational in Romania, and this year another 3 Centers will be opened in Romania and one in the Republic of Moldova.
In order for the correct information to reach each parent, the Child Car Safety Foundation® initiated the project National Car Safety Caravan for Children, a project through which every month, the specialists of our Centers invite parents from various cities of the country to free tests and installations of car seats, as well as to courses on the safe transport of small passengers and first aid measures. All these actions are carried out with the support of our partners in the framework Titi Aur Academy, SMURD, The traffic police. The first stop of the Car Safety Caravan for Children in 2021 will be in June, in Brașov, followed by Craiova, Targu-Mureș, Constanța, Iași, Suceava, Sibiu, Cluj, Oradea, Miercurea-Ciuc, Arad, Timișoara.
Your Child’s Car Safety Starts at the Maternity Hospital
The project Your Child’s Car Safety Starts at the Maternity Hospital is one of the ways we meet the new parents, providing them free of charge for a period of 3 days, shells to be able to safely transport newborn babies from home from home.
The newest project of the Foundation is Sustainable Car Seat Recycling Project worn or involved in road accidents, by transforming them into highchairs or child seats, so that they no longer reach the landfill. In December, all these pieces of furniture made from recycled car seats will be auctioned in a charity called Green Car Seats Gala, and the money raised on the occasion of this event will be donated to a pediatric orthopedics-traumatology department, where children victims of road accidents will be treated. In this way, the car seat will be able to complete its rescue mission, even in those cases where due to the lack of this safety device the child was seriously injured.
,, Siguran beltand the Car Seat Saves Lives”
And because we want our message to reach all parents, grandparents, educators of the little ones, Children’s Car Safety Foundation® is the initiator of an Online Petition: ,, Siguran beltand the Car Seat Saves Lives”. Here are the 3 requests we want to bring to the attention of the public:
- Introducing messages of social interest in the program of news and general television, in order to increase the awareness of parents regarding the saving role of the Child Car Seat or the Seat Belt.
- Increasing the amount of the fine for not using the child car seat and the seat belt up to 2000 lei, so that it is sufficiently motivating for the parents and they to constantly use the safety devices for transporting the little ones.
- The introduction by law of the obligation to discharge babies from the maternity ward in an age-appropriate car seat (shell), if the child is to be transported from the maternity home home by car.
All these projects already underway, have as their sole purpose the reduction of the number of deaths and serious injuries among children, aiming at: 0 such deaths in the group 0-14 years in 2030.
We invite all Romanian decision-makers, all parents, grandparents, media representatives to join us, so that the news can go from person to person more and more and this because the road accident is a preventable cause of death and for that YOUR CHILD’S CAR SAFETY IS NOT OPTIONAL!
