Customization of machines is becoming a powerful tool for their promotion. More and more brands include equipment with unique design and equipment elements in their portfolio, selecting bread from a tuning studio. And women – and this is obvious – are becoming perhaps the main consumers of such a beautifully packaged exclusive. In the case of the “compact” Subaru XV, the role of chic non-standard is played by the top performance of Tokyo, which debuted on the Russian market not so long ago. And since just a good half of XV buyers are just ladies, then the interest of the weaker sex in the Tokyo bottling SUV promises to be even stronger.
Japanese little thing
The exclusivity of XV Tokyo warms the soul and manifests itself in important details. Judge for yourself: the body has only three colors, but all three “girls” are light blue, sunny orange and, like a test car, bright red. Non-unique application on the side doors, door sills and bumpers that successfully simulate aluminum, and a Tokyo nameplate on the rear body pillar. Personification, as you see, is spectacular, but most importantly, the designers have not changed the sense of proportion.
Bright color accents are involved in the cabin. Red embroidery on the front head restraints of leather seats and fabric rugs, a line on the seats, front panel, steering wheel and center console is a scarlet theme that symbolizes peace in Japan, family prosperity, as well as celebration, power and wealth, as they say, is revealed. Unobtrusive references to the sports legend of the brand go in the background: powerful side support rollers and metallized pedals clearly add a twist.
However, as they say, not a single decor … XV Tokyo seduces motorists with a set of practical solutions. Let’s say a regular plastic body kit is supplemented here with a protective film on the doors. The rear windows are tinted, hence the pleasant feeling of privacy. The standard equipment includes a keyless entry system, an electric sunroof, a heated steering wheel, an informative 8-inch central display with navigation and a rear view camera, as well as a premium Harman JBL audio system with ten speakers.
At the same time, this Subaru facilitates operation by the simplest means, which is very pleasant and very Japanese. For example, there are lightweight doors, which does not detract from their strength. The steering wheel is trimmed with soft leather and can be adjusted in a wide range, and since this configuration also has an electric driver’s seat, both buttons and girls with the growth of the catwalk models are conveniently arranged here. In addition, the highlighting of the make-up mirrors is offered in both sun visors, all the buttons are large, and the toggle switches are smart – you will not spoil a manicure with such!
There is enough space for three adults at the back, and you can only blame for the lack of additional ventilation deflectors and harsh plastic in the door trim. Well, the trunk is clearly not a record, although it will be enough for the city dweller, especially since the sofa is laid out on a flat floor, and there is a small spare tire under the partition “just like a fireman”.
Pleasure for every day
Driving the XV Tokyo is comfortable. The dimensions are felt perfectly, and in difficult situations you will be corrected by parking sensors and dynamic marking of the rear view camera, as well as row control systems, blind spots and adaptive “cruise” included in this package. There is also such a “bodyguard” as a reverse assistance system. Electronics will let you know about the car traveling in a perpendicular course from the rear, so that you can twist your head and strain less. For me personally, the presence of such assistants is already an occasion to consider the model as a purchase.
At the same time, the “Tokyo” XV perfectly obeys the informative and light steering. Acceleration is quite confident, but without an emphasis on sportiness: 150 “horses” do not break into a gallop, but obediently pull. The variator works without hesitation and noise. Such gentle manners like me and loved ones. And to register turns on such a machine is a pleasure. SUV also copes well with bumps and speed bumps.
A couple of times we got out with this mod to the country road and there, I confess, I was surprised at its potential. It is necessary to press the “magic” X-Mode key on the central tunnel, and all-wheel drive, stabilization system and a 2-liter engine paired with a variator are reconfigured to off-road. Then the car creeps much more confidently on the blurry primer. The solid – 220 mm – clearance also contributes to the permeability.
True, the enthusiasm of fashionistas and lovers of nature trips can somewhat cool the price – for a pleasant in all respects “Tokyo” modification they ask 2,369,900 rubles. Although for me – to walk like a walk! If you decide to take the most affordable Subaru XV, take a closer look at the basic version with a 1.6-liter 114-horsepower gasoline engine, again, with a CVT and four-wheel drive for 1,799,000 rubles. But XV Tokyo is my definite favorite, because for me it is the best combination of style and driving pleasure.
