For the first time, Volkswagen ID.1 appeared on a corporate Christmas card, with which the German brand congratulated automotive journalists around the world on the eve of 2020. Later, the future serial electric car, which should replace the VW e-Up!, Began to acquire various rumors and guesses.
It has been reported that the VW ID.1 hatchback, also known as the e-Zzity, will hit the market in 2023. Now the publication Car Magazine has denied its own information, saying that in 2023 Volkswagen will present only the concept of an electric car, while the production version will have to wait until 2025. In addition, it will later be used as the basis for the ID.1 Crozz subcompact electric crossover and the e-Roomzz minivan.
The dimensions of the “five-door” ID.1 will be comparable to the e-Up !, and outwardly similar to the new VW ID.3. The hatchback will have a large windshield and taillights connected by an LED strip. Earlier it was reported that the model will be based on the modular MEB platform used by the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 crossover, but later it was reported that it cannot be scaled downwards. For compact electric models up to 4 meters long, Volkswagen is expected to develop a budget electric cart with MEB components.
Volkswagen ID.1 will be offered with two battery options: 24 kWh and 36 kWh. With a block of larger capacity, the hatchback’s cruising range will be 298 km. There is no information about the motors at the moment. The electric first-born of the brand – the hatchback Volkswagen ID.3 will also enter the market with a delay. The reason for this was software problems. They were discovered a few months after the start of mass production in November 2019. Earlier it was announced that deliveries of the electric car to customers would begin according to the plan – June 17, 2020. But the company later announced that the First Edition cars would begin shipping to customers in September. The date of entering the market was not changed. The fully operational vehicles will begin shipping by the end of 2020.
