Two Volga crossed the finish line of the Monte Carlo rally


This year, two Russian crews took part in the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique. The first is Alexei Vasiliev and Konstantin Zhiltsov, last year’s race winners, the second are race car drivers Ilona Nakutis and Tatyana Eliseeva. Like 60 years ago, they performed on the GAZ-21, however, the current rally Volga are equipped with a V8 5.5 with a power of 255 forces and a five-speed “mechanics”, rather than 98-horsepower engines with carburetors from the GAZ-12.

Following the results of 13 stages, the crew of Alexey Vasiliev and Konstantin Zhiltsov finished 36 of 286 in the overall standings and showed the fifth result in the group of cars until 1962. Ilona Nakutis and Tatyana Eliseeva took 82nd place in the absolute, seventh in the group of cars of 1962-1968 and fifth among nine female crews. The first crew, compared with last year, managed to climb 26 lines, the second – immediately at 118.
