Toyota has confirmed that it is working on a compact crossover that will be built on the basis of a new generation of Yaris hatchback
It is important to note that the concern is not going to make just another hatchback, but with increased ground clearance. Matt Harrison, vice president of Toyota Europe, said the car will be a brand new model with its own unique design. The off-road vehicle will be based on the same GA-B platform, which today is the most compact version of the global TNGA architecture.
Judging by the published teaser, the novelty will indeed turn out to be larger than the donor Yaris. However, in the company’s lineup, the crossover will take a position below the CH-R in both size and cost. Toyota expects that by 2025, this model will account for 30 percent of all European brand sales.
