Formula 1 has revealed the design of the new car that will be used starting with the 2022 season.
Starting next year, Formula 1 will change the rules, and the cars will have a new look. A prototype built according to the new rules was presented at Silverstone before the Formula 1 race that will take place this weekend.
New rules in Formula 1 from 2022
The application of the new rules has been postponed for a year due to the pandemic, but from 2022, all teams will have to comply with the new set of rules that promise more performance. The aerodynamics have been redesigned to make overtaking easier, and the tires will be mounted on 18-inch wheels, which brings narrow sidewall tires. Wheel covers will also appear, for better aerodynamics.
The front wing has a completely new shape, to give it a better ground pressure. For propulsion, the cars will use the hybrid system consisting of the 1.6 turbo engine, but the fuel used will contain 10% biofuel.
The total weight of the Formula 1 car will increase from 725 to 790 kilograms.
