The new cross-coupe – Infiniti QX55 – South Korean premium brand announced in August last year. The teaser of the future car with a sloping roof line, like the iconic first-generation Infiniti FX crossover, the company showed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance elegance competition in California.
It was planned to begin mass production of the new product in June this year at the joint factory with Daimler in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes, where they assemble the Infiniti QX50 soplatform crossover, but, according to Automotive News, the launch of the model in the series is postponed for five months. Nissan’s North American manufacturing correspondence has identified problems with suppliers as the cause of the delay. Presumably, we are talking about replacing the engine: instead of the 2.0-liter “turbo four” VC-Turbo with a variable compression ratio, the Infiniti QX55 can be equipped with a Daimler engine.
The new crossover was supposed to contribute to the revival of the Infiniti brand, sales of which in some markets deteriorated sharply after the former head of the Renault – Nissan – Mitsubishi alliance Carlos Ghosn was arrested and removed from management for financial fraud. In the US market, sales of Infiniti cars last year fell by 21.1%, to 117,708 units, and the brand completely left Europe and Australia.
