From January 1, 2020, the procedure for registering cars will change in Russia. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, reports Kommersant. Starting next year, Russians will be able to register new cars directly at dealerships without visiting the traffic police department.
Now car dealerships will be able to obtain the status of “specialized organization” after passing the audit and fulfilling a number of requirements. After that, the dealer will be able to transfer documents to the traffic police, make numbers and give the whole set of documents with keys to the buyer.
However, for customers this service will be paid. According to the publication, the client will have to pay about 500 rubles for rooms at the dealer. Such rates for the service were established by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).
In addition, when registering a car, it will be assigned the license plate number of the region where the owner is registered. Thus, it will be impossible to register a car with a “non-local” number. In addition, the innovation will exclude the right to leave the previous license plate when buying a used car, if it is registered in another region. The document also introduces a ban on registration of vehicles for citizens under 16 years of age.
