The next generation Genesis G90 sedan will be the first production car with a laser rangefinder. The use of three types of sensors, including cameras and radar, will allow the introduction of a third-level autonomous movement system
TheKoreanCarBlog website writes that the new Genesis G90 is equipped with a front camera, a radar and two active rangefinders (lidars). Equipment suppliers will be Mando and Velodyme. All three systems will be combined into a single complex under the control of a software and computing platform developed by Hyundai Motor. Such a solution will allow implementing the Level 3 autopilot, that is, in some cases, the driver will be able to remove his hands from the steering wheel and not look at the road at all.
Interestingly, the introduction of autonomous third-level motion systems, in addition to Genesis, has already been announced by Mercedes-Benz and BMW. According to preliminary information, the system will appear on the next S-Class and iNext electric crossover.
