The situation in which the reader “Behind the wheel” turned out to be commented on by the head of the State traffic inspectorate Mikhail Chernikov.
In the passport, my name is written as Dmitriy, and in recently issued rights – Dmitrii. Will there be problems abroad?

The reader’s question is answered by the head of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Lieutenant General of Police Mikhail Chernikov. |
There will be no problems. This discrepancy is apparently due to different rules of transliteration of Cyrillic letters in Latin at different time periods.
Currently, transliteration is carried out in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia dated May 13, 2009 No. 365 “On the entry into force of a driver’s license”, according to which this name should be written like this: Dmitrii.
At the same time, at the request of the driver, entries in the certificate can be transliterated in accordance with the data specified in his foreign passport. To do this, you must contact the traffic police with a statement on the replacement of a driver’s license.
