According to a study by the British Department of Transportation, over the past five years, the number of people who died or were seriously injured as a result of an accident due to driving too slowly increased by 75 percent.
As he writes Daily star, only last year in the UK 26 people were seriously injured and two died as a result of accidents caused by the unreasonably low speed of one of the participants in the movement. Another 132 people received minor or moderate injuries.
At the same time, in the UK there are fines for driving much slower than the established speed limit – the driver will have to pay 100 pounds (a little more than 8 thousand rubles), he also gets three penalty points. But even this does not always make drivers drive faster.
Hugh Bladon, the founder of the Alliance of British Drivers, agrees that slow drivers are no less dangerous on the road than speed men. In his opinion, such a driving style annoys others, collects “tails” from other drivers and forces them to overtake, the most dangerous maneuver on the road.
Slow riding, according to Bladon, “is selfish and completely stupid, and even leads to disaster.” But at the same time, the representative of the alliance understands that some drivers drive slowly because they do not have enough experience and self-confidence. As Bladon admitted, something can hardly be done with this.
The penalty for a slow ride is valid in Russia, it was accepted back in 2014. According to the law, a driver who moves at a speed below 30 kilometers per hour on a road outside the village is obliged to miss the convoy going behind him so as not to create an emergency. Otherwise, he faces a fine of 1 to 1.5 thousand rubles. You can also get a fine if you go on a motorway at a speed below 40 kilometers per hour.
In practice, such fines are rarely issued – photo and video cameras installed in Russian cities penalize only drivers who exceed the speed limit. Moreover, fines for this violation have recently been proposed to be increased six-fold, from 500 to 3,000 rubles, and for repeated violation, to be fined immediately by 5,000 rubles. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs took this initiative.
