The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf hatchback received five hybrid versions at once – these are moderate eTSIs with different returns and rechargeable eHybrid. One of the features of cars with a 48-volt system is the possibility of coasting with the engine turned off for quite a long time.

For the entire trip (33 kilometers), about 24 percent of the time the engine was turned off. In this case, the longest period of movement without starting the power plant was almost four minutes. The average fuel consumption after stopping was measured at 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers.

The Volkswagen Golf line includes three eTSI power plants. These are engines with a volume of 1.0 (110 horsepower) and 1.5 liters (130 or 150 forces). All are equipped with a 48-volt starter-generator with a belt drive and a lithium-ion battery. At the start, the electric motor helps the internal combustion engine, and also replaces the start-stop system.

The rechargeable GTE hybrids have a higher return – 204 horsepower – and a 13 kilowatt-hour battery more capacious than previous machines. In addition to them, in the motor range of the new Golf there are gasoline “triples” 1.0 (90 and 110 forces), “fours” 1.5 TSI (130 and 150 forces) and diesel engines 2.0 (115 and 150 forces).
