Russian motorists whose cars are subject to recall due to potentially dangerous airbags are in no hurry to go to the service, and as a result risk their life and health, Izvestia reports. According to tradition, domestic car owners hope “they will carry it at random.”
We are talking about the airbags of the Japanese company Takata, which were installed in the popular in Russia car models of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi and others in the period from 2010 to 2014. It is known that the manufacturer equipped the airbags with a too powerful squib, as a result of which metal fragments fly into the driver. Due to the defect, 24 deaths were registered all over the world, more than 300 motorists received serious injuries.
It is noted that in Russia currently drives about one and a half million cars with dangerous airbags. Manufacturers are ready to recall cars to fix the problem, but Russian car owners are in no hurry to service.
“In 99% of cases, these cars, due to their age, left large cities in the hinterland, and dealers lost contact with them. The new owners do not go to official services and therefore do not know about recall campaigns, ”said Roman Skolsky, PR Director of Nissan and Datsun in Russia.
Ilya Nikonorov, Marketing and Public Relations Director of MMS Rus, noted that the motorists who were able to communicate with them refuse to repair, incorrectly believing that in this way they are lured into a car service.
“There are clients who ignore the service and do not consider it necessary to take care of their health and the health of their loved ones. “So far, nothing has happened” and “maybe it will carry it over” – all this, alas, is in the minds of many customers, ”added Natalya Astafyeva, PR-director of Toyota in Russia.
