Renault is the first company in the Russian market to introduce the technology of updating the multimedia system “over the air” – car owners will be able to download new versions of software independently and free of charge. At the first stage, this function will be available only for the Arkana crossover, and then it will appear on other Renault models with the Easy Link system.
FOTA technology (Firmware Over the Air or “update over water”) is similar to smartphones and tablets; it does not require connecting a phone or modem to Easy Link. The system downloads the software in the background during the trip and offers to install it after the driver parks and shuts off the engine.
After the motorist confirms the installation, the system itself will complete the process, even if Easy Link goes into sleep mode. You can monitor the status of the download process on the screen of the multimedia system in the “Software Update” section.
Fifteen hundred Renault Arkana owners, automatically selected by the system, have already gained access to the new feature. In the near future, other customers will get access.
