Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has officially unveiled the new CullinanBlack Badge in Russia – the most daring version of Black Badge in history.
Black Badge is an unprecedented line for Rolls-Royce. It is a symbol of inexhaustible energy, strength, power and impressive torque. Black Badge reflects the ambitions and aspirations of a new generation of luxury consumers who are not satisfied with traditional cultural luxury codes. The Black Badge series first appeared in 2016, when dark versions of Wraith and Ghost were launched, and in 2017, the Dawn double added to the lineup. Black Badge attracts a younger and bolder generation of customers, defining the landscape of the ultra-luxury product market.
The novelty was personally introduced by the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Torsten Müller-Ötvös. He noted: “The Cullinan Black Badge combines the impeccable pedigree of Cullinan, the most luxurious SUV in the world, and the bold character of Black Badge. It is the perfect combination of attractive mystery and absolute luxury, opening its owner endless possibilities of movement. “
The dark aesthetics of the model are reflected in every detail. The “Spirit of Ecstasy” figure on the hood of the car – an invariable symbol of the brand – appeared in a dark guise and covered with gloss, embodying the rebellious spirit of Black Badge. The monogram “RR” on the hood and doors darkened, becoming silver on a black background. The trim of the radiator grille, the tailgate, the lower air intakes and exhaust pipes are coated in black chrome. The vertical sectors of the grille retain a glossy hue, reflecting the dark framing elements. In a luxury SUV, color brake calipers for the first time appeared, effectively contrasting with a glossy black finish.
But Black Badge is much more than an impressive design. When creating a car of this class, it is necessary that the visual aesthetics reflect the changed dynamic characteristics.
The Cullinan Black Badge is a thrill with the Architecture of Luxury, a unique aluminum space-frame architecture designed exclusively by Rolls-Royce engineers for the brand’s cars. The aluminum construction provides extraordinary rigidity to the Cullinan, and due to its flexibility it can be equipped with all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive steering. In the Black Badge version, the specifications have been refined for even greater driving – without sacrificing the Rolls-Royce’s traditional ride quality.
Black Badge means superior comfort, bold aesthetics, innovative materials and craftsmanship. Specialists of the brand captured his temperament in a completely new veneer finish with carbon fiber, drawing inspiration from urban trends in architecture. The surface is a pattern of repeating geometric shapes with a three-dimensional effect. Each sheet of technical fiber is coated with six layers of varnish, after which it is left to dry for 72 hours, and then polished manually to a mirror shine. This process takes 21 days, and it ends only after the master makes sure that each of the 23 elements is identical and combined with each other.
The endless possibilities of Rolls-Royce Cullinan are symbolically reflected in the infinity sign that appeared in various elements of the decoration. For the first time this sign was applied to the famous Blue Bird K3 seaplane of Sir Malcolm Campbell in the 1930s, equipped with a Rolls-Royce engine. The infinity sign spoke of belonging to the class of boats without an upper speed limit.
Muller-Otvos noted: “The line of bold Black Badge models attracts more and more young adventurers who dictate their conditions. The time has come for the darkest and most daring representative of the Black Badge family – the King of the night, Cullinan Black Badge. ”
Cullinan Black Badge appeared before the Russian public in a corporate black body color and a dark interior with contrasting elements of turquoise color.
As part of the presentation, Mr. Muller-Otvos confirmed that by the end of 2019, Russia became the largest market for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in continental Europe. In 2019, sales of the brand in Russia reached record levels for the entire 109-year history in Russia, taking the countdown from the delivery of the first Rolls-Royce model in St. Petersburg in 1910. For the first time over 200 cars were delivered to customers.
Last week, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced a new world sales record. In 2019, the company handed over 5,152 cars to customers, reaching an impressive 25% growth compared to 2018.
