Modern electric vehicle batteries are too heavy for the Cayman and Boxster two-seater sports cars, according to Porsche. As Michael Steiner, head of research and development, told the Car publication, the brand’s engineers are already working with several Boxster prototypes with electric power plants to gain the necessary experience and knowledge, but there is still no final decision on converting the 718 line to electric traction. For heavier and more powerful models, such as the Taycan, the extra mass is not as critical as for lightweight two-doors.
