Opel has released the first teaser images with the new generation of the compact Astra: design elements inspired by the Mokka model and electrified running gear.
One of the most important models in the Opel range will soon receive a new generation. Opel Astra reaches the eighth generation, the new model will use the EMP2 platform within the Stellantis group. It is the same platform used by the new Peugeot 308. The new generation Opel Astra will be available in two body versions: hatchback and Sports Tourer.
Opel Astra teaser images: design inspired by the current Mokka model
The first official teaser images confirm that the design of the new Astra model will be inspired by the Mokka SUV. The Astra will have the Vizor grille, specific to the newest Opel models (found on the Crossland facelift, Mokka and Corsa), and on the back we find the name of the model written on the length of the tailgate.
For the first time in history, the Opel Astra will receive an electrified running gear, the EMP2 platform allowing the adoption of a plug-in hybrid system, which will be offered alongside the classic petrol and diesel engines. However, the platform was not designed for a fully electric version of the model.
Inside, the new Astra will use the Pure Panel digital cockpit that uses two large screens arranged around the steering wheel. Physical orders will be reduced to the minimum necessary.
The new model will be produced at the Opel plant in Russelseim, Germany.
