When it comes to car audio, ordinary people are simply lost in the abundance of all the proposed options for speakers, amplifiers, radio, subwoofers, and everything else. The correct and high-quality sound in the car is a whole science, which is devoted to more than one thousand pages on the open spaces of the world wide web. However, now we are offered to abandon all this, preferring a small device, which, supposedly, should make the car’s interior elements sound. It would be considered a joke or a bluff, if not for the names of companies that promote this technology. Sennheiser and Continental spoke at the presentation of this speaker system and it seems they are serious.

The system is called Ac2ated Sound and its essence is as follows. She draws inspiration from stringed instruments that use their wooden body as a resonant chamber. However, their similarities end there. High-tech audio system has specially designed software and actuators that excite the surface of the elements of the car. Special technology for gluing sound waves allows you to transfer the vibration to the inner panels of the car, which, in fact, direct the sound into the passenger compartment.

Although this technology is difficult to explain, companies said the system delivers extremely natural sound, as if you were sitting in a concert hall. They also noted that the sound is realistic and exciting, and envelops passengers in an incredibly detailed and vibrant sound landscape.

The system is certainly innovative, but in addition to its main purpose, it also has many other advantages, compared with classic car speakers. First of all, Ac2ated Sound weighs a lot less than conventional audio systems, which can reach 40 kilograms. In addition, since the system uses existing internal surfaces, it is 75-90 percent smaller than the usual speakers. Continental claims that this makes the Ac2ated Sound system ideal for electric vehicles, where saving space and weight is a priority.

The technology also has other advantages, as it gives automakers more freedom in interior design. As companies noted, the devices can be placed behind the door trim and the roof trim. They can also be installed in the A-pillars, rear shelf, and dashboard. The presentation does not say a word about when an audio system without speakers can be put into production, but I hope you won’t have to wait long.
