In 2019, residents of the capital most often chose foreign cars of the mass segment at car dealerships. The most popular model among Muscovites was the Volkswagen Polo, which only slightly surpassed the Kia Rio in sales, and the Hyundai Creta crossover closed the three.
From January to December last year, 13.5 thousand new Polo, 11.1 thousand copies of the Rio and 8.4 thousand Creta were sold in Moscow. Moreover, the demand for Polo and Creta increased by 12 and five percent compared to 2018, respectively, and Rio sales decreased by 19 percent, Avtostat clarifies.
Hyundai Solaris, which was sold in the amount of 8.1 thousand units (-9 percent) and the Skoda Octavia liftback (7.7 thousand vehicles sold, -3 percent) also entered the top five.
In the second half of the rating are Kia Optima (7 thousand, +49 percent), the Nissan Qashqai crossover (7 thousand, 68 percent), the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover (6.7 thousand, +5 percent), the Toyota Camry sedan (6.3 thousand, + 10 percent) and the Skoda Rapid liftback (6.3 thousand, -6 percent).
In total, 1.75 million new cars were bought in Russia last year. The most popular models for the year were Lada Granta (135,831 sold) and Vesta (111,459), as well as Kia Rio (92,475), Hyundai Creta (71,487) and Solaris (58,682).
