Moscow authorities do not plan to expand the paid parking zone, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in an interview with NTV.
“No, such plans [расширять зону платной парковки] not. There is no particular sense in this. Although some local solutions are possible when transport and interchange hubs are introduced, new metro stations. Around them, you need to watch what happens. In general, I believe that the parking system in the city 90% took place. If there were no paid parking lots, I think in the center it would simply not be possible to drive through. When we introduced paid parking, the number of cars in the center decreased by 25-30%, “Sobyanin said.
The free parking mode on Sundays and holidays was launched as an experiment in 2015. Then, by decision of the Moscow government, this opportunity began to operate on an ongoing basis. However, from December 15, on a number of streets in the center of Moscow, new rules for using paid parking lots, as well as updated tariffs, began to apply. The changes are designed based on the busy streets based on expert recommendations. From this moment, the decision on the free mode of all parking lots is made by the city hall situationally.
Earlier on the site “Moscow Parking” it was reported that residents and guests of Moscow will be able to park for free on the streets of the city during the New Year holidays from January 1 to 8.
