More than 25 thousand car owners used the service of registering new vehicles at the traffic police departments without issuing a physical state license plate, Autonews.ru correspondent reports. They registered the cars in MREO, and printed the signs on their own – ordered in private authorized organizations.
According to representatives of the traffic police, the first virtual state number was assigned on January 3 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur – it was received by a driver registered in Moscow.
The possibility of registering new cars at the traffic police departments without issuing physical state signs is associated with the law “On State Registration of Vehicles” that entered into force on January 1, 2020. According to the changes, when registering a new car, only the license plate number of the region where the owner is registered is now assigned. At the same time, it is now possible to register a car with a “non-local” number in any traffic police department. But in this case, the motorist from another region will not be given the nameplate – it will need to be printed independently in any of the specialized organizations.
