German concern Daimler AG prepares to reduce up to 15,000 employees in an effort to cut costs
The German brand announced in November last year its intention to reduce the number of jobs by 10,000 in order to save about $ 1.5 billion by the end of 2022. Now, insiders have learned that saving measures will be significantly expanded.
It is expected that the concern will announce mass layoffs on Wednesday, February 12. Handelsblatt also notes that the manufacturer is going to reduce investments in unprofitable areas that are not part of the company’s core business.
To further reduce costs, Daimler AG may reduce its lineup. In particular, there is a high probability of canceling future coupes and S-class convertibles. Also in question is the fate of the B-class. Meanwhile, the first steps to optimize the lineup have already been taken. In late January, Mercedes-Benz recognized the X-Class pickup as an unsuccessful experiment. Its production will cease at the end of May 2020.
