At the International Exhibition of Consumer Electronics CES-2020, the premiere of a new concept car from Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR (Advanced Vehicle Transformation) took place. The title also encodes a reference to the James Cameron film “Avatar”, which inspired the developers of the car.
The company explained that Vision AVTR demonstrates the connection between man, nature and the machine, and also embodies the dream of a society in which these three links coexist in perfect symbiosis.
The show car received an electric power plant, and interior details, including chairs, are made of recycled materials and their shape resembling the hammocks of the inhabitants of Pandora in a Cameron film. The usual controls are missing, so the driver will have to fully trust the autopilot.
The four-seater Vision AVTR is drop-shaped, and there are seats for four in the cabin. An “extraterrestrial” view of the car is added by 33 movable aerodynamic flaps in the rear, which can synchronously change their position. Another unusual feature is the rhythmic pulsation of the backlight, which adapts to the rhythm of the driver’s heartbeat.
The 470-horsepower installation drives the electric car, and the battery capacity is 110 kilowatt hours. Mercedes-Benz stressed that the battery does not contain rare earth metals and works on the principles of organic chemistry. On a single charge, the Vision AVTR is capable of driving 700 kilometers.
