In early January, Toyota introduced the “charged” hatchback GR Yaris, a homologation model for the FIA WRC. Now the company has shown its “simplified” version: it has an atmospheric engine, CVT and front-wheel drive.
Externally, the Toyota GR Yaris CVT is similar to the 272-horsepower all-wheel drive hot hatch. However, technically this is a completely different car. Instead of the 1.6-liter G16E-GTS three-cylinder turbo engine, the GR Yaris CVT is equipped with a 1.5-liter aspirated engine with 120 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The six-speed “mechanics” iMT with the function of coordinating revolutions during switching is replaced by a variator.
The GR-FOUR four-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch in the rear axle, two optional Torsen differentials with a mechanical lock and three modes of operation disappeared. The “simplified” Toyota GR Yaris has front-wheel drive only.
So far, the GR Yaris CVT is just a concept, and the original GR Yaris is already available for order in the RZ “First Edition” and RZ “High-performance First Edition” versions, which differ in equipment. The first option will cost 3.96 million yen (2.2 million rubles), the second – 4.56 million yen (2.55 million rubles).
