Recent Frets are waiting for delivery to buyers in Germany.
The German importer Lada has never been easy. But at some point it seemed that everything went smoothly at the headquarters in the distant Togliatti. The announced new models really came to Europe relatively quickly. Led by Bo Andersson of General Motors and former Volvo designer Steve Mattin, the largest Russian automaker AvtoVAZ began to gain momentum and produce one model after another, writes auto-medienportal.net.
Firstly, the classic 4×4 was successfully retouched in the Urban version, then, in 2017, the Vesta appeared – a fairly modern and quite competitive car. The Vesta SW Cross station wagon also attracted the attention of buyers who had previously ignored the brand. There was no doubt that XRay will hit the German market in the foreseeable future.
Diter Trzaska, director of Lada Automobile GMBH, an official importer of Lada cars in Germany, believes that the export of this model has suddenly stopped after Renault acquired AvtoVAZ’s share. He considers himself indebted to retailers whose expectations related to Vesta cannot be met.
The official reason for the decision to suspend exports is the introduction of more stringent environmental standards in the EU. But Trzaska believes that the engines could be modified, only Renault no competition needed – he already has a “cheap brand” in the form of Dacia in Germany. Perhaps Lada no longer fits into the “picture of the world”, although the company is still the market leader in Russia. Its share in the local market is even greater than that of Volkswagen in German. The importer, including, accuses the Renault group of poor sales of Vesta in Germany. Taking into account the image of the Lada brand, its price was increased by at least 1,500 euros.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, earlier this year there were more than 28 thousand Lada cars on German roads. The importer from Buxtehude is responsible for their service and supply of spare parts, as well as for the warranty. This will be ensured by new contracts that will be concluded in April 2020. The remaining prospects are foggy.
Until 2024, Dieter Trzaska suspects, Lada manufacturer – AvtoVAZ will not import cars into Germany. All efforts to pursue an independent export policy failed at the execution stage, which is now determined by the French host.
But Lada, nevertheless, lives – for example, a 4×4 SUV was recently updated in Russia and received a modern interior and more convenient functions, Vesta’s sales exceeded the mark of more than 400 thousand units, and AvtoVAZ completely assumed the former joint venture with General Motors to continue to produce Chevrolet Niva SUVs.
But the fact is that the last 500 new cars for Germany are waiting for delivery to customers. According to Lada spokesman Bernd Haack, all 4×4 SUVs will be sold in late February and early March. Sales of the less popular Vesta may last until August or September. Until then, an alternative must be found, and the German Lada GmbH believes that it has found it in China.
Contracts have already been made with two electric vehicle manufacturers. Lada Germany wants to bring to Germany a 4.9-meter EF 5 Joylong van, as well as an EM5 minivan. The second brand in the new league will be Zhidou (ZD – a subsidiary of Geely) with a D2S two-door city car with a range of 257 kilometers on a single charge. German brochures for these cars are already printed.
