The Japanese showed the pre-production prototype of the Honda e electric city car in March last year at the Geneva Motor Show, and a hatchback ready to get on the conveyor – six months later, at the IAA 2019 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. A compact Japanese electric car will appear on the European market this summer, although the start of receiving pre-orders was back in May 2019.
During this time, the company has already managed to announce that the hatchback will not have a “charged” version, and then change its mind and promise to release a version with the cult Type R prefix in the name. In an interview with Top Gear, one of the top managers of the company, Takahiro Shiniya, said that for the appearance of the “hot five-door” it is important to understand whether the client wants this, but the developers have such a desire. According to Takahiro Shiniya, a “charged” Honda e may appear within two years and perhaps it will not be Type R, but Type S or just a more severe version of the standard model, which in itself is not so slow.
In Europe, the hatchback is offered with an electric motor with a capacity of 136 or 154 hp. and a maximum torque of 315 Nm. With a large motor, the five-door accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h in about 8.0 seconds. The declared range of 220 km is provided by a 35.5 kWh battery pack.
In Europe, prices for the Honda e will start from 33,470 euros, in the configuration Advance with a 154-horsepower engine – from 36,470 euros. In the United States, an electric hatchback will not be sold.
