Not only that, recently the Skoda Octavia 2020 received a dangerous rival in the person of the cheap Baojun RC-5, which was jointly developed by GM and SAIC, so now the Chinese budget car has got a more practical body.
The new Baojun RC-5W is a station wagon. While the standard RC-5 used at the base is a liftback. Yes, such an obvious analogy with the Czech bestseller Skoda Octavia is not accidental – it is with this popular model in China that Baojun plans to compete.
They will take at a price: the cost of the liftback is about 10 thousand dollars for the basic version. Apparently, the wagon will be quite a bit more expensive. Externally, the novelty is very similar to its donor and completely copies its front part with an elegant false radiator grille, narrow DRL strips and large blocks of head light. From the liftback RC-5, the taillights connected by an LED jumper also got.
But the station wagon, of course, features a huge trunk. It is hard to imagine that Chinese buyers will carry there, but this does not concern us. Perhaps, General Motors and SAIC are somehow considering the possibility of selling a novelty outside the home for the Chinese auto market, but we still do not know anything about this.
The RC-5W received at its disposal a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo with 147 hp. Although the RC-5 also has a 99-horsepower atmospheric version of this unit, it will not get a wagon. It remains to wait for the official premiere. So far, the first photos of Baojun’s new products have leaked to the Network traditionally thanks to the Ministry of Industry of China.
