Ford canceled the project of an electric car under the brand Lincoln

Ford Motor has abandoned plans to produce an expensive electric crossover under the premium brand Lincoln. The reason is the crisis provoked by the coronavirus pandemic

The concern has already sent a plan revision letter to its American dealers, Automotive News writes. The intention to release a full-sized electric Lincoln was first announced in November 2019. He was hoped to build on the universal modular development platform of the Rivian startup (Ford – one of its largest co-investors – invested $ 500 million).

Ford clarifies that one day they will make an electric Lincoln SUV, but not under the current conditions. Although the coronavirus crisis has delayed the release of several models of different brands (for example, the new Bronco or full-size GM SUVs), this is the first case when it comes to canceling a promising car. At the same time, Rivian continues to work on its platform, the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV – their production will begin in 2021.
