According to Automotive News, at the Fiat plant, there was a shortage of components for the Fiat 500L audio system, which are being transported from China. According to preliminary data, the production of subcompacts will be resumed until the end of February. The fact that the coronavirus affected the work of the European plant was not a surprise. At the beginning of this month, FCA head Mike Manley admitted this possibility – according to him, at least four Chinese suppliers of the Fiat plant were affected by the epidemic.
The suspension of the Fiat 500L was the first time that a shortage of components from an epidemic-affected China affected machine manufacturing at a European plant. At the same time, the first company to announce the downtime of plants outside the PRC was Hyundai – it stopped the production of cars in South Korea.
