Scientists have named a new cause of heart attacks. It turned out that ultrafine particles, which are the main source in the city from automobile exhausts, can provoke myocardial infarction.
The most interesting thing is that not the legendary British scientists came to this conclusion, but quite ordinary researchers from Yale University, the Helmholtz Center and the University Hospital Augsburg. According to scientists, during the first few hours of exposure to the body, particles that easily penetrate the blood may cause big heart problems. The study covered nearly six thousand people who survived a heart attack from 2005 to 2015.
“The work confirms what we have been guessing for a long time: the smallest particles of polluted air can affect the development of a serious heart disease. This is especially true during the first few hours, ”RIA Novosti quotes Yale University associate professor Kai Chen, one of the authors of the study.
