The popularity of electric cars is growing at a tremendous pace, gradually overshadowing and displacing cars with internal combustion engines from the market. More recently, fuel vehicles have significantly surpassed electric cars and hybrids in terms of sales, but the market situation has begun to change.
Analytical company JATO Dynamics has calculated the level of car sales in Europe and, for the first time in history, the number of registrations of electrified cars exceeded the level of sales of cars running on diesel internal combustion engines. Electric cars and hybrids have not yet succeeded in surpassing the sale of gasoline cars. If we go to numbers, then in September 1.3 million cars were registered in Europe.
If we look at car sales from the point of view of segments, then the situation here is ambiguous. Sales of gasoline and diesel cars continue to fall. Moreover, the latter reached their anti-record in September, showing a result of 24.8% of the total number of cars sold in Europe. At the same time, the demand for electric vehicles for the specified period increased by 139% to 327,800 units. This is a new record for this segment, both in terms of sales volume and market share.
Hybrids and mild hybrids accounted for 53% of the total number of electric vehicle registrations, and their volume increased by 124%. Toyota and Lexus continue to dominate with a 32% market share. Also in high demand were the Ford Puma, Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda. Tesla was expected to lead among 100% electric vehicles, although sales fell 5%, while its closest competitors, Volkswagen and Renault, grew 352% and 211%, respectively.
“The transition from ICEs to electric vehicles is finally taking place. Although this is largely due to government policies and incentives for consumers, which helped to finally accept these technologies, “- commented on the statistics global analyst JATO Dynamics Felipe Muñoz.
