After the first three turbulent days of Dakar, the fourth, fifth and sixth stage, SUVs passed without major incidents.
Carlos Sainz continues to confidently maintain leadership, gradually increasing the gap between his pursuers. And this despite the fact that two of the last three special stages were won by Stefan Peteransel. The French racer, who is a true legend of Dakar, as well as Sainz performs at MINI, and so far in the overall standings takes third position. The second place is still retained by Nasser Al-Attiyah on Toyota Hilux, demonstrating excellent stability at every stage.
Argentine rider Orlando Terranova in MINI rolled from third to fifth, missing not only Peteransel, but also Saudi Arabian pilot Yazid Al Rahji in Toyota Hilux.
Fernando Alonso, who encountered technical problems in the early days, also got comfortable with the new discipline. Despite a three-hour lag behind the leaders, the Spaniard behind the wheel of Toyota Hilux shows a good time and plays several places at each stage, taking at the moment sixteenth position.
