“I’m moving away from a debate about how to get into people”

Unfortunately, we will have to start the description of this model with a negative. No, I personally consider it a beautiful, excellent example of a class F car. But what Internet users write about it does not even sound offensive, but simply insulting.

I’ll start from afar. Many years ago, at the dawn of the Internet, people already tried to discuss cars on its “pages”. And negative reviews slipped through the reviews, in particular, I read one unpleasant thing about the high-end model. On occasion, I asked the representative of the brand whether such a drawback really took place. Then they asked me how I found out about him. I answered – from the Internet. And then they told me: the owners of such cars do not participate in such discussions and do not write reviews on the Internet.

But really: it’s hard to imagine that a serious businessman, a major scientist or a high-ranking official was exchanged for something like that. Yes, such people simply do not have time for this, they spend it with greater benefit and meaning. And then, with social and financial status, a person willingly or not acquires a certain upbringing and tact. Therefore, even taking a negative attitude to the purchase of a car or any luxury item, it will not go down to offensive and insulting epithets.

Once I drove a test minivan to a construction goods store in a district center 400 miles from Moscow. On the occasion, I talked with its owner, who showed interest in the car, as he looked after it for his business trips. No, far from an oligarch, but still the owner of a number of shops and enterprises in this and the neighboring region, who at that time owned the BMW five and was familiar with several high-end models. Inspecting the minivan, he asked me some technical and practical questions and could not help but compare his previous cars, but he did not say a single rude or swear word about any of them. Although there were things that he did not like about them, moreover, he listened with interest to the shortcomings that I found in the minivan during the test.

And so I read reviews of the Genesis, which is almost accused of mortal sins. “Wagon” is another epithet. One would like to ask these people: have you ever ridden it or something like that, at least saw this car “live”, have descended to sit inside? Or do you criticize it yourself, based on someone’s reviews on the same Internet, simply because status and big money oblige you to buy models of only eminent German and Japanese brands, you see, this is accepted in society, and the rest is nonsense and bad manners?

Well, let the Genesis be denied fame and status. Having parked a huge sedan at my house, I immediately ran into questions of a man of obviously southern blood who had arrived at the Priory: “And what is this brand? And how much is it? The bomb, right? ” Without even knowing the South Korean brand, an outsider immediately identified a luxury item in the car. If only because in the parking lot a maroon sedan for more than a meter stood out from a number of budget crossovers and hatchbacks of my neighbors. And his “wicker” radiator grill shone in the sun.

“Lattice – if not from him.” “The feed does not fit the bow.” “The backside is like the” Americans “of the last century.” Well, right all around, we have automotive designers, but for some reason they are not known to anyone. I am not a designer, I do not pretend even once, but I will honestly say: I do not like the outline of the G90. But not at all because his feed does not harmonize with his nose, but because I just prefer swift, fit, sporty silhouettes. Such as, for example, the Genesis G70. And I do not like “outstanding” luxury. But I can not help but say: the fact that the G90 is a luxury item is visible a mile away. This, if you want, is a classic car of its class, which at the same time manages to turn out to be very similar to no one else. In details – yes, there are similarities, but in general it is quite peculiar and recognizable. If you want – this is a suit of cut, close to traditional, only maroon. This is the new color in the line, it is called Porto Red.

“A machine for the nouveau riche, the upstarts that millions have fallen on, and they don’t know what to spend it on.” I wonder who I hear from? Even if you are a businessman and have achieved something, tell me how old you are in the market and compare this “age” with the history of “Daimler-Benz” or “Jaguar”. Yes, Genesis is new to this segment, but your product too. Do not stick to the old Russian traditions and do not stick out production lines from Europe – you are also a nouveau riche, let’s do it in Hamburg. So a Swiss watch with a century and a half history is also not about you. One should not be content with mid-range brands that are quite elegant and functional – but how can one not throw a stone at those who are trying to create and, in general, are already creating luxury goods? Recall how the satirist Mikhail Zhvanetsky formulated the answer to the question: “What do you want most when you climb up?”

Without reverence, I open the driver’s door of the G90 – and fall into shock. Still, sometimes you need to first learn a little about the car that you are going to test. Well, tell me, WHY is this salon fundamentally different from the salons of other class F cars? Yes, everything is classic here, without the “Lexus” exercises in design, but a very solid classic was chosen as the basis – it seems to me like the most expensive Jaguars. This is a whole, and the washer of the multimedia system controller is something from BMW’s “area”. And – yes, the doors here are with “suction cups.” Maybe their mechanisms work slower, noisier and weaker attract doors than competitors? Do not sin.

Of particular interest, it seems to me, are the inserts, like, under the tree – because it really is a tree. Moreover, not varnished, but simply carefully polished, matte, and therefore gives the cabin warmth and comfort. Yes, yes, let’s blame designers for the fact that hard-to-remove oil traces will probably linger on such surfaces soon. I probably agree. But this is constantly pouring a lot of oils through my fingers – motor, transmission, push-pull, chain. The owner of the Genesis is probably only content with cream and sunflower. And he has the habit of wiping his hands after eating.

It’s funny, but the critics whose nitpicking I met on the Internet did not pay attention to the fact that, in theory, any driver should catch the eye. This is a dashboard. Yes, she has “mechanical” arrows, this is the “cashier” of the premium model. And the information content is on top. But design is really, if not from here. This is the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento Prime level. The same new “Sonata”, although a digital panel, is many times more interesting. The designers of Genesis are simply obliged to think about this.

And here is my reason for nitpicking, or rather, noticed by passengers. Behind the light beige steering wheel, black shift paddles showed up. Definitely a mess. I understand that it will be problematic: to select plastic for the levers in the salons, which can also be a dark blue or brown color. However, it is necessary, comrades. Premium is so premium, let’s no discount.

Finally, the “divergence” in the number of adjustments of the front and rear seats. What is it that turns out – the driver gets them more than the high-ranking passenger? Or is it supposed that the owner himself will drive a luxury sedan? But then for whom are the royal seats in the back intended? It is clear that not for business partners. So for family members? Somehow, in my opinion, too luxurious, especially for younger members. And the wife should be on equal terms with her husband.

Sports tuning of the engine and … seats

In any case, it seems to me that any passenger, sitting behind, will choose the comfortable position of the lounge chair and adjust the climate to his “zone”. And he will see on the tablet screen the name of the musical composition that is currently playing, and the map of the navigation system. Sitting on the back right can also move the chair in front of him forward and tilt his back. The corresponding keys are located on the left side of the back of the front passenger seat on the outside, so that a person who has got into a car for the first time may not know about them. Oh, I think that the “golden” kids will indulge a lot with this device.

The multimedia system in the updated flagship G90 last year is also new. Her display with a diagonal of just over 12 inches is now touch-sensitive. It is possible to control functions both with its help and using the washer-controller on the central tunnel. True, this device is strongly pushed back; using it, let’s say, is not entirely handy.

In the same way, it’s hard for me to imagine a snob who would find the driver’s seat adjustment insufficient. There was an interesting incident during the test. As a driver, I did not immediately pay attention to the abundance of these adjustments, but, in the slightest way, I sat comfortably and, starting the movement, was carried away by the automatic transmission modes. I tried all of them and gave preference to sports. In fact, this dreadnought with the 370-strong turbo-six all modes are good, even very. Thrust – from the bottom and in the widest range, hello diesel. The moment is even slightly higher than that of a five-liter aspirated. Acceleration to hundreds – in six seconds with a minimum of tenths. The same engine is placed on the swift Kia Stinger.

But I liked the sport mode, not only for the “fire”, but for … improving the landing in the chair. When choosing it, the lateral support rollers are shifted, however, not very noticeably. It is better noticeable when they switch apart when switching to Comfort or ECO. It was then that I tried all the settings for the chair and made sure: lateral support is also subject to adjustment.

In principle, the sport mode only slightly improves the dynamics – despite the fact that we are talking only about four to five seconds required to accelerate from 80 to 120 km / h. Where less? And, most importantly, why? This definitely will not contribute to the comfort of movement, rather, on the contrary – with a sharp set of speed, riders who are keen on watching content on the rear displays will simply experience dizziness. Less risk when overtaking? Such cars are generally not supposed to take risks, especially for hired drivers. The slightest hint of this when moving – and the “suction cup” of the left front door will not work the next time for you. So power and dynamics are a tribute to status. All three engines available on the G90 – atmospheric V6 and V8 (3.8 and 5.0 liters, 309 and 413 hp, respectively) and a 3.3-liter turbo engine (370 hp) – are worthy of attention, but the 2.5-liter “Sonatovsky” engine about 170 forces will not quite appear here. Maybe he would have had the strength for a heavy F-sedan, but, so to speak, the height of his social position is not.

Automatic “just something” eight-band, and not nine- and not ten-? In my opinion, this does not matter in the absence of a manual mode. Как и в новой «Сонате», здесь можно «подоткнуть» передачу на ступень ниже, но лишь на мгновения — автомат очень быстро вновь станет автоматом. На самом деле, ручной выбор передач намного важнее, чем ручной же выбор режимов движения, потому что ни одна из этих настроек не поможет в сложных условиях, например, в снегопад или гололед. А возможность «играть» передачами — поможет. Так что это еще и вопрос безопасности. Правда, в этой дисциплине Genesis G90 выступает на стороне пассажиров, предлагая только полный привод во всех комплектациях.

Справляется без пневмоэлементов

Ну и, конечно, в его активе и ассистент удержания в полосе, и вполне корректно работающий активный «круиз», и система контроля «слепых» зон. Ее индикаторы загораются при опасности не только в зеркалах: на проекционном экране водитель также видит, со стороны какого борта может возникнуть помеха. А еще G90 радует картинкой соседнего ряда, возникающей на панели приборов в момент начала перестроения.

Шумоизоляция салона у модели улучшена, хотя по-прежнему вызывает критику. Видите ли, камешки звонко барабанят по колесным аркам на загородных дорогах. Не соглашусь: не так уж хорошо это слышно. А подвеска справляется с неровностями таких дорог на ура. За амортизацию без пневмоэлементов автомобиль заслуживает очень высокой оценки. Руль в «гражданских» режимах ощущается, как излишне легкий, при спортивной настройке он заметно «тяжелеет». Такой же характер ему можно придать, используя режим Custom.

И — подвеска этой, с позволения сказать, «повозки». В ней нет пневмоэлементов — и это минус? Скорее, плюс, потому что при наличии «пневмы» автомобили куда более склонны к поперечным кренам при маневрах. А здесь они минимальны. Электронноуправляемые адаптивные амортизаторы G90 и без дополнительного «воздуха» на совесть справляются с неровностями практически любого типа. Вот прямо мастерски. До того, что я готов чуть не забрать пальму первенства в вопросах амортизации у известного японского бренда уровня «люкс». Его последние новинки, пожалуй, уступят корейскому «выскочке».

У G90 и курсовая устойчивость на высоких и очень высоких скоростях — на зависть. Систему подруливания в полосу вполне можно посчитать лишь дорогой «примочкой», положенной автомобилю данного класса. Тут, правда, надо оговориться, что во время теста «Дженезиса» под колесами был чистый и сухой весенний асфальт, а японцу-однокласснику поздней осенью досталось влажное и местами слякотное покрытие и загрязненные линии разметки на той же трассе.

Огромные 19-дюймовые колеса слишком громко шлепают на стыках и трещинах? Это уже мнение журналистов, тестировавших G90, им я доверяю куда больше, чем досужим завсегдатаям околоавтомобильных форумов и чатов. Доверяю, но… не всегда согласен. Я этих «шлепков» не услышал, даже при наличии на автомобиле зимних шин. И к шумоизоляции придраться не могу. Может быть, она не идеальна — но вполне достаточна для того, чтобы наслаждаться звучанием премиальной аудиосистемы, а не просто заглушать ритмичной долбежкой дорожные шумы.

Думаю при этом, что и примитивная музыкальная долбежка будет воспроизводиться динамиками Lexicon на космическом уровне. Мы начали прослушивание с творчества … Кортнева, затем плавно перешли к креольским песням в исполнении Cesaria Evora с акустическим сопровождением, от них — к электронной «Энигме» и затем к року, классическому от Scorpions и аутентичному малийскому от Tinariwen – есть и такой. И всё звучало, да как… Только недостаточно басисто почему-то — а всего лишь потому, что кто-то убавил настройку низких частот. Явно не меломан.

Музыку воспроизводили с флэшек, компакт-дисков, а также напрямую из музыкального Интернет-сервиса через подключенный смартфон. И вот чем порадовала система: она, как и во многих других автомобилях, для каждого устройства предлагает «свою» громкость. Например, для музыки со смартфона регулировку надо существенно повышать, для радио — наоборот, понижать. При этом умный «комбайн» каждый раз при переключении с источника на источник выдавал оптимальный уровень громкости — тот, который мы выбрали, соответственно, для музыки со смартфона, компакт-диска или флэшки.

Правда, CD-привод здесь прячется в перчаточном ящике, и вставить в него диск на ходу — невыполнимая задача для водителя. Кроме того, уж слишком «чувствительным» оказался регулятор громкости на левой спице руля. Чуть сильнее коснешься его — и звук «гасится», наступает режим Mute. Аналогичное рифленое колесико управления бортовым компьютером на правой спице работало нормально.

Чем еще не угодил Genesis G90 серьезным критикам и оголтелым критиканам? Оказывается, тем, что ни в одной из комплектаций у него нет встроенных в кресла механизмов массажа. Даже в Royal. Ничего не возражу — действительно нет. И действительно, в «Лексусе» того же класса массаж есть, причем, не только очень эффективный: разные его виды реально отличаются друг от друга. А управление вынесено на отдельную кнопку, не надо искать функцию глубоко в электронном меню. Нужен ли массаж мне как водителю? Точно нет: в дальней дороге удобство кресла вполне компенсирует его отсутствие, а если тело все-таки устанет, можно изменить его положение, используя огромный набор регулировок. Вот задним креслам я бы эти механизмы добавил — и то, прежде всего, ради повышения статуса автомобиля. Мол, есть у «грандов» — должно быть и у «новичков».

Простором задние пассажиры G90 не обделены, здесь побольше «воздуха», чем в LS 500. Ради интереса я замерил ширину участка пола в ногах у заднего пассажира, она составила 65 см. А расстояние для коленей при посадке «за мной» — от 23 до 34 см, в зависимости от положения кресла. Которое может быть как «сидячим», так и «полулежачим».

Существенно это или нет, но крышка огромного багажника в дорогом седане, имея электропривод, не открывается взмахом ноги. Не думаю, впрочем, что его владелец будет активно заниматься бытовыми грузоперевозками. Багажник по паспорту насчитывает 485 л, а кажется, что он значительно больше. Спинки задних сидений в версии Royal, естественно, не складываются.

А под фальшполом багажника есть запасное колесо — докатка, но в LS 500 нет и ее. И рядом с запаской в «Дженезисе» приютился аккумулятор, между прочим, чуть ли не «грузовой» емкости: 106 А•ч. И емкость, и расположение батареи обещают более надежный пуск двигателя холодной зимой.

Насладившись в течение нескольких дней роскошным «Дженезисом», я, признаюсь честно, все-таки не купил бы его себе. Не потому что он недостаточно роскошен или не соответствует классу — нет, тут-то как раз попадание стопроцентное, без натяжек. Со временем модель «обрастет» историей и будет конкурировать с F-«грандами» уже точно на равных. Но, будь я наемным персональным водителем, двумя руками проголосовал бы за работу на «Дженезисе», а вот насчет пятисотого «Лексуса» подумал бы. Вот правда, корейское шасси произвело на меня большее впечатление, чем японское. А свои личные миллионы потратил бы на более скромный, но при этом более драйверский автомобиль, со спортивной ноткой. Жаль, что сошел со сцены Lexus GS, а с ним и восхитительная версия GS-F. Она бы осложнила мой выбор между «Ягуаром» ХЕ, Volvo S60 и тем же «Дженезисом», только G70, обязательно с 249-литровым мотором под капотом.

Тем же, кто оголтело критикует флагманский G90, я бы посоветовал быть сдержаннее в высказываниях, даже если они в чем-то справедливы. Ваше положение позволяет вам судить о нем, в том числе резко? Всегда помните о том, что оно еще и обязывает — к выдержке и такту. Кроме того, громкие и пафосные отрицательные характеристики вряд ли «припечатают» этот автомобиль так, как вам хотелось бы. Скорее, наоборот — сомнениями в справедливости вашей критики повысят внимание к нему.

На сегодняшний день Genesis G90 представлен в России с тремя вариантами моторов и в пяти комплектациях по ценам от 4 690 000 до 6 760 000 рублей. Плюс удлиненная версия G90 L с колесной базой 3450 мм за 7 060 000 рублей. Стоимость тестового автомобиля — в исполнении Royal, с 3,3-литровым турбомотором и стандартной базой 3160 мм — 6 555 000 рублей. Все основные конкуренты существенно дороже корейского флагмана, за исключением близкого по стоимости, мощности и оснащению Cadillac CT6.
