BMW will not build a plant in Russia, and the automaker refused the idea of full-scale localization in July last year. The president of BMW Group Russia Stefan Toichert told reporters about this during a business breakfast.

According to Forbes, BMW is still interested in the production of cars in the country, but the maximum possible localization in the current situation is “assembly and painting in the absence of local suppliers.” In order for its own plant to be profitable, its capacity must reach 100 thousand units per year, which is equal to the total sales of premium cars of all brands.

They talked about the possible construction of a BMW enterprise in the Kaliningrad region back in 2018, when the company applied for a special investment contract. However, it was later frozen.

BMW cars are assembled at the facilities of the Kaliningrad Avtotor. There, the production of BMW sedans of the 3rd, 5th and 7th series, crossovers X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6, as well as models of the Kia and Hyundai / Genesis brands, was arranged.
